Credible Messenger Community Outreach Grant Program

COVID-19 has affected so many people and their families across the world. This has resulted in the emergence of several intervention programs to mitigate the disease. These programs however cannot be implemented without the required funding to deploy the needed resources and expertise to make it happen.

To this effect, Bayne LLC in partnership with the DC Health (Government of the District of COlumbia, DC Muriel Bowser, Mayor), solicited grant applications for the COVID-19 Credible Messenger Community Outreach Grant program; African Women’s Cancer Awareness Association decided to apply for the grant. This grant is a DC Health Strategy to contain and Prevent the spread of COVID – 19 in the District of Columbia.

We are happy to announce that we got the $55, 000 grant that will span for 11 months.

We will be implementing an outreach plan, which will promote cooperation with the District’s contact tracing operations. We would work to establish an understanding and acceptance of the importance of case investigation and contact tracing within African communities. We will ensure the development and deployment of effective health communication and community engagement strategies that are culturally appropriate to rightly inform the African population about the District’s contact tracing program:

it’s importance in mitigating and containing the spread of COVID-19, and why it plays a key role in protecting them, their families, friends and their communities. Through this strategy, we will build trust within these communities for the program, obtain community buy-in, cooperation and participation.

We have a precedent of working with diverse African communities in the Washington DC area. These communities also include vulnerable and high-risk populations of all ages who are living with breast cancer, breast cancer survivors, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. We have worked in all the eight wards in the District of Columbia in the past sixteen years.

We are glad for this partnership with Bayne LLC and DC Health. Through this, we will make a huge difference in the lives of the African communities in Washington DC.
