As part of our activities to help implement community social distancing engagement and public health awareness outreach efforts based on federal funding provided through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act among African immigrants living in Washington DC, African Women’s Cancer Awareness Association team set out to distribute Personal Protective Equipment (face masks, gloves and hand sanitizers) and cleaning agents for 300 black women living with breast cancer/survivors and their families. Thus far, we have distributed 650 bags that contained the essentials – PPE’s. These bags were distributed to CHurch leaders, Mosques, Community Leaders, women and their family members living in Wards 2, 4, 5 .7 & 8.
This is part of our goal to provide hope and support to the African immigrant population and to ensure that they stay safe by practicing all the public health measures required to shield them from getting COVID-19.
This project was funded by the Mayor Bowser’s Administration and we are glad that this partnership is contributing to the impact we are making in our communities. The impact of COVID-19 in our lives cannot be overemphasized. Being one of those organizations that are contributing to shining light and giving hope to members of our communities it is a great fit we are proud of.
