2020 DC HOPE Community Grant

We are glad to announce that we are recipients of the $50, 000 2020 DC HOPE Community Grant that will be implemented for a period of 6 months. This is a funding provided by The Mayor’s Office of Community Affairs (MOCA) to help implement community social distancing engagement and public health awareness outreach efforts based on federal funding provided through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. With a focus on Health, Opportunity, Prosperity, and Equity (HOPE), the grant will provide a sense of HOPE that even in times of unprecedented crisis, we can live up to our DC values and provide every Washingtonian with a fair shot.

As part of the Bowser’s Administration to reopening the District of Columbia, it was important for them to partner with organizations like ours to assist in engaging with our vulnerable populations across all eight wards about COVID-19 related resources, services and guidelines in order to flatten the curve.

Through this grant, we will provide public health education, healthcare and direct service support to African immigrant population living with breast cancer/survivors and their families in Washington DC. We plan to distribute to the doorsteps Personal Protective Equipment such facemasks, hand gloves, hand sanitizer, as well as cleaning agents to help our target population prevent getting infected with COVID-19.

We’ll organize virtual public health outreaches related to COVID-19 and breast cancer. It will be made accessible to black communities in the Washington DC area. We will also provide regular public health information specific for breast cancer patients, breast cancer survivors and their families. We will work to connect our target population who require COVID-19 tests, healthcare and mental health support to testing sites, health care providers and mental health practitioners respectively.

We are glad to be partnering with Mayor Bowser’s Administration to serve the African communities living in Washington DC. We look forward to the impact this project will make in the lives of our target population.
