Maureen Umeh is a multiple award winning television news anchor for Fox 5 News in Washington, D.C. She is also a media trainer, political advisor, and diplomatic consultant. In her 20 plus years in those fields, Maureen has met, interviewed and worked with numerous people from all walks of life. They include dignitaries, lawmakers, celebrities and religious leaders. Her work has covered all areas, and she has been recognized and honored with many awards, including several television EMMYs, the Edward R. Murrow Award for Television Excellence, numerous Associated Press nominations and recognitions, and the NAACP Leadership Award.

Maureen has had the privilege of working with lawmakers and officials from the President George H.W. Bush Administration through the President Barack Obama Administration on issues concerning the media and Africa.
She has been a featured speaker and moderator for various panels that pertain to African interests in health, energy, infrastructure and education.

While those have been laudable accomplishments, they pale by what she believes has been the cornerstone of her mission as a journalist, which has been to use her voice and platform to bring awareness to issues of importance to African and African-American communities.

Maureen is a Board Member of International Sheroes Forum; a global women’s movement for gender equality and leadership.Notable members include, Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor, Vice President of the Republic of Liberia and
Dr. Joyce Banda, Former President of the Republic of Malawi.

Maureen serves on the Board of Directors of the African Women’s Cancer Awareness Association (AWCAA). AWCAA strives to address disparities in awareness, prevention and access to healthcare for African immigrant and descent communities that face cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. The group is dedicated to eliminating these disparities within the Washington Metropolitan area, the continent of Africa and beyond.

Maureen also serves in an advisory capacity in her family’s various health care related businesses, including The West African Health Initiatives (WAHI).The West African Health Initiatives is led by her father, Dr. D. I. Umeh, a pioneer health care provider in Nigeria, Oncologist and cancer researcher. WAHI’s mission is to bring comprehensive medical diagnosis, treatment and research in all areas of medicine, specifically HIV/AIDs, Malaria, Tuberculosis and Cancer to all of Sub-Saharan West Africa.

In 2008, Maureen was approached to consider a run for U.S. Congress in the 4th Congressional District of Maryland. While she declined, it led to the formation of her political consulting and media training company, Gabtics, LLC. Her clients include members of the United States Congress, Heads of States and Ministers of several African nations and prominent business leaders.

Maureen is a highly sought after emcee, moderator and speaker at events locally, nationally and internationally.
