Dr. Cabanes’ professional trajectory is diverse. Her background is in preclinical and population science research, and public health program development and implementation. Early in her career, she held positions in cancer research (Georgetown University, USA) and cancer surveillance (Centro Nacional de Epidemiologia, Spain).
Dr. Anna Cabanes is a cancer epidemiologist and a non-profit executive with 20+ years of experience in cancer research and program implementation working to improve health equity in communities around the globe.Dr. Cabanes’ professional trajectory is diverse. Her background is in preclinical and population science research, and public health program development and implementation. Early in her career, she held positions in cancer research (Georgetown University, USA) and cancer surveillance (Centro Nacional de Epidemiologia, Spain).
Between 2011-2020, she led community health programs in the US and internationally at Susan G. Komen – the largest non-profit dedicated to ending breast cancer. She worked with patients, advocates, healthcare organizations, and governments, to innovate and integrate new cancer programs within healthcare systems; to develop national policies and establish successful care delivery models; and to mobilize communities through evidence-based advocacy.
Since May 2020, she works independently, assisting organizations to develop and implement cancer programs. She is currently Senior Advisor at Global Focus on Cancer, focused on integrating cancer supportive programs in healthcare systems. She is also the founder of a new digital initiative to provide breast cancer education in Spanish to cancer patients.A native of Barcelona, she has worked and lived in Europe, Canada, the U.S., and the Middle East. She holds a Ph.D. from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and an M.P.H. from Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health.
