As the impact of COVID-19 began to increase in our communities and our organization, it became very important for African Women’s Cancer Awareness Association to raise funds to continue to operate as an organization, as well as continue to serve the communities of African immigrant women and their families living with or have survived breast cancer.
On June 28, 2020, we organized a virtual brunch fundraiser for women of color affected by breast cancer. It featured an array of sessions including: doctor-led panels, healthy cooking demos, fashion show – featuring African style masks and scarves to match, Azonto style dance class and a panel discussion with some breast cancer survivors and some Breast Cancer Organization CEO’s. It was a great rewarding afternoon.
The goal was to raise $10,000 but due to your generous donations, we were able to raise $13, 795. We are grateful to all our family, friends, breast cancer survivors, caregivers and all those who supported the event. We couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you so very much.
We also want to appreciate partners such as Susan G. Komen, Honey Pot Company, Eastern Motors in Sterling, Virginia, Fox 5 News with Benevity for matching the funds raised by Fox 5 News employees, Dr. & Dr. Mrs Gaznabi and all other individual donations.who collaborated with us to make it successful. Through these funds, we can continue to serve women affected by breast cancer living in the DMV area. We are grateful for your support and partnerships.
