Wangari Maathai, the Kenyan environmentalist, activist, and Nobel laureate, once said, “Success is not achieved in isolation; it is a collective effort. Keep persevering, and you will find that the strength of your community will carry you forward to accomplish great things.”
This past May, our community did exactly that! Breast Care For Washington, DC (BCWDC), who has been at the forefront of fighting breast cancer in our nation’s capital since 2012, donated a much needed ultrasound machine to our organization. We have partnered with BCWDC since their inception and they have religiously supported our communities, activities, and initiatives with their mammogram van, screening at least 15 – 30 women with each visit.
We are humbled, thankful, and delighted to receive such an important gift from our community partner in the fight against breast cancer. It means that “we can move the screening process in-house and help more women,” our Founder and President, Mrs. Ify Nwabukwu, said. “With this donation, we’re working closely with radiology technicians who are also donating their service to help screen women on a monthly basis which is a huge help to our services.”
The Actual Machine Donated to AWCAA
It goes without saying that when you keep preserving you will indeed find and receive strength from your community to accomplish great things. We look forward to doing just that and continuing this arduous fight against cancer with a little more resources at our disposal.
Thank you again, Breast Care for Washington, D.C. Here’s to great things ahead!
