The burden of living with a chronic disease during the COVID-19 pandemic

The impact of COVID-19 on people living with chronic diseases such as breast cancer, hypertension, diabetes, etc., cannot be overemphasized. COVID-19 in several ways have influenced the way we live in our world today. The way we live however is not the same for everyone. People living with chronic diseases have to pay more attention to their lives to protect themselves from contracting the virus. CDC reports have shown that people living with chronic disease have a higher risk of severe illness due to COVID-19. It is therefore important to educate people living with chronic diseases on practical ways to stay safe and prevent getting infected with the virus.

As part of our efforts to continue to serve a wide variety of people living with chronic diseases, we organized a webinar to discuss, “Ways to Stay Safe From COVID-19 While Living with a Chronic Disease.”

We appreciate our resource person Chris Chukwunyere, a breast cancer advocate and public health expert who did justice to that topic. We also couldn’t have been able to educate, empower and support our community without the Credible Messenger Grant implemented in partnership with the DC Government.
