Patient Navigation Fund
The African Women’s Cancer Awareness Association, impacts thousands of lives through breast cancer education.
We work with African immigrant women helping them to navigate the labyrinth in the health care system. We engage in various community outreach activities working mainly with the under served, the under privileged and under insured African immigrant women. Our patient navigation services help bridge the gap for the African immigrant woman facing breast cancer. Most barriers are broken down through our patient navigation services which include:
- Translation: language barriers impede proper understanding of medical jargons
- Transportation: most of the immigrant women use public transportation which most times creates difficulty in keeping scheduled appointments.
- Child Care Services: A small percentage of child bearing age women with breast cancer, sometimes need help with keeping their babies while the receive treatment.
We provide them with available resources, to help them meet their other needs that AWCAA cannot provide. With your help we can continue to support these women.
